In Islam, atheism is considered to be a rejection of the fundamental principles of the religion, as it involves denying the existence of God. According to Islamic belief, God is the creator of the universe and everything in it, and is the source of all guidance and wisdom. Therefore, those who reject the belief in God and his existence are seen as going against the teachings of Islam. Islam teaches that faith in God is essential for leading a righteous and fulfilling life, and that those, who reject this belief are misguided and will be held accountable for their actions on the day of judgement. However, Islam also emphasizes the importance of freedom of conscience, and allows individuals to make their own choices about what they believe. Muslims are encouraged to respect the beliefs of others, even if they disagree with them, and to engage in dialogue and discussion in a respectful and peaceful manner.
1. Creation: Allah’s Signs in the Universe and Humanity
These verses establish the foundation of the narrative, showcasing Allah’s creation of the heavens, the earth, and humanity as clear evidence of His existence, challenging atheistic claims of a purposeless universe. While each verse has a different context, they all collectively represent a timeless message directed toward every individual. They highlight how one’s personal view of the world should lead to reflection, not denial. We have not added any explanations because the verses themselves speak directly and powerfully, each one is a self-evident sign.
Quran 2:164
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the [great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and earth are signs for a people who use reason.
Quran 3:190
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.
Quran 6:95
Indeed, Allah is the One who causes the seed-grain and the date stone to split and sprout. He brings the living out of the dead, and He is the one who brings the dead out of the living. That is Allah; so how are you deluded?
Quran 6:99
And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees—of their emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
Quran 6:141
And it is He who causes gardens to grow, [both] trellised and untrellised, and palm trees and crops of different [kinds of] food and olives and pomegranates, similar and dissimilar. Eat of [each of] its fruit when it yields and give its due [zakah] on the day of its harvest. And be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess.
Quran 10:24
The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb—[those] from which men and livestock eat—until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought.
Quran 10:67
It is He who made for you the night to rest therein and the day, giving sight. Indeed in that are signs for a people who listen.
Quran 13:4
And within the land are neighboring plots and gardens of grapevines and crops and palm trees, [growing] several from a root or otherwise, watered with one water; but We make some of them exceed others in [quality of] fruit. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.
Quran 16:11
He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
Quran 16:12:
And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.

And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.
Quran 38:27
And We did not create the heaven and the earth and that between them in vain. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve, so woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
Quran 39:21
Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs [and rivers] in the earth; then He produces thereby crops of varying colors; then they dry and you see them turned yellow; then He makes them [scattered] debris. Indeed in that is a reminder for those of understanding.
Quran 44:39
We created them not except in truth, but most of them do not know.
Quran 45:13
And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth—all from Him. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.

And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith] and in yourselves. Then will you not see?
Quran 88:17-20
Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? And at the sky, how it is raised? And at the mountains, how they are erected? And at the earth, how it is spread out?
2. Human Denial: Rejecting Allah’s Signs
Each of these verses has its own specific context, revealed at different times and for different situations. But when read together, they point to a consistent message. These are not limited to one group or time; they apply to anyone, atheists, disbelievers, or even those who claim to believe, based on how they behave, what they believe, and how they respond to truth, Some verses speak about mockery, others about arrogance, blind following, or outright denial. But the connection is clear: if someone carries the same mindset or attitude as those mentioned in these verses, then the verses are about them, regardless of when or where they live, The Qur’an addresses the nature of people, not just their names or labels. That’s why these ayat are still relevant. They speak directly to those who reject or distort the truth, whether openly or by attitude. These verses don’t need long explanations, they describe real traits and real outcomes. If someone sees themselves in these descriptions, then the warning is for them, So while each verse stands with its own context, together they serve as a mirror. The message depends on the heart of the person reading. If the behavior matches, the verses apply.
Quran 2:9:
They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.
Quran 2:78
And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except in wishful thinking, but they are only assuming.

Quran 6:25
And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to argue with you, those who disbelieve say, “This is not but legends of the former peoples.”
Quran 6:33
We know that you, [O Muhammad], are saddened by what they say. And indeed, they do not call you untruthful, but it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject.
Quran 6:46
Say, “Have you considered: if Allah should take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allah could bring them [back] to you?” Look how We diversify the verses; then they [still] turn away.
Quran 6:93
And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or says, “It has been inspired to me,” while nothing has been inspired to him, and one who says, “I will reveal [something] like what Allah revealed.” And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], “Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant.”
Quran 7:101
Those cities, We relate to you, [O Muhammad], some of their news. And their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus does Allah seal over the hearts of the disbelievers.
Quran 7:146
I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant upon the earth without right; and if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. And if they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they have denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
Quran 8:31
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, “We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples.”
Quran 9:65
And if you ask them, they will surely say, “We were only conversing and playing.” Say, “Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?”
Quran 10:15
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Bring us a Qur’an other than this or change it.” Say, [O Muhammad], “It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day.”
Quran 10:36
And most of them follow not except assumption. Indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what they do.
Quran 10:101
Say, “Observe what is in the heavens and earth.” But of no avail will be signs or warners to a people who do not believe.
Quran 11:14-15
And if they do not respond to you- then know that it [i.e., the Qur’an] was revealed with the knowledge of Allah and that there is no deity except Him. Then, would you [not] be Muslims? Whoever desires the life of this world and its adornments – We fully repay them for their deeds therein, and they therein will not be deprived.

And those who have disbelieved say, “You are not a messenger.” Say, “Sufficient is Allah as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture.”

Quran 18:57
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance, they will never be guided, then, ever.
Quran 25:4
And those who disbelieve say, “This [Qur’an] is not except a falsehood he invented, and another people assisted him in it.” But they have committed an injustice and a lie.
Quran 25:5:
And they say, “Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon.”

Rather, it [i.e., the Qur’an] is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge. And none reject Our verses except the wrongdoers.
Quran 34:43
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, they say, “This is not but a man who wishes to avert you from that which your fathers were worshipping.” And they say, “This is not except a lie invented.” And those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them, “This is not but obvious magic.”
Quran 34:45
And those before them denied, and they [i.e., the people of Makkah] have not attained a tenth of what We had given them. But they [i.e., the former peoples] denied My messengers, so how [terrible] was My reproach.
Quran 40:63
Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them—great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.
Quran 40:70
Those who deny the Book and that with which We sent Our messengers—they are going to know.

Quran 68:51
And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, “Indeed, he is mad.”
3. Arrogance and Delusion in Disbelief
These Quranic verses, while each rooted in their own unique historical and thematic context, collectively highlight a timeless pattern of human behavior, particularly in regard to arrogance, delusion, denial, and rebellion against divine truth. They speak not just to the disbelievers of the past, but to anyone in any era who adopts similar attitudes, including modern-day atheists, secularists, or self-proclaimed reformers who, despite rejecting revelation, believe themselves to be morally upright, Some verses address the deceptive allure of worldly life Quran 2:212, 10:7-8, 15:3, 45:35, while others expose those who deny guidance out of arrogance or mockery Quran 2:11-12, 7:76, 31:7, 39:59. Several speak of people who see themselves as enlightened or progressive reformers, yet are unknowingly causing corruption or following falsehood Quran 2:11-12, 18:104, 43:36-37. Others show how Allah gives such people time, not out of approval, but so they may increase in wrongdoing before the eventual reckoning Quran 3:178, 67:9, Together, these verses serve as mirrors: whoever reads them will find themselves reflected based on their belief, behavior, and attitude toward truth. Whether it’s religious hypocrisy, arrogant denial, or blind materialism, the Quran speaks to the inner condition, not merely the label of “believer” or “disbeliever.” The guidance or warning applies according to how one receives the message, These are not verses of mere history, they are timeless, calling every reader to reflect: Are you guided by truth, or lost in illusions of self-righteousness?
Quran 2:11-12
And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are but reformers.” Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.

Quran 6:123
And thus We have placed within every city the greatest of its criminals to conspire therein. But they conspire not except against themselves, and they perceive [it] not.

Those who were arrogant said, “Indeed, we are disbelievers in that which you have believed.”
Quran 9:69
[You disbelievers are] like those before you; they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion [of worldly enjoyment], and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have engaged [in vanities] like that in which they engaged. [It is] those whose deeds have become worthless in this world and in the Hereafter, and it is they who are the losers.
Quran 10:7-8
Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are heedless of Our signs—for those their refuge will be the Fire because of what they used to earn.

And if We give man a taste of mercy from Us and then We withdraw it from him, indeed, he is despairing and ungrateful.

4. Death and Mortality: The Inevitability of Divine Decree
These verses revolve around the undeniable reality of death, divine control, and human delusion. No matter how safe or secure someone feels, even in the strongest towers, death will still reach them. People often blame others or circumstances when misfortune strikes, forgetting that everything, whether good or bad, ultimately comes from Allah, Every nation and every individual has a fixed appointed time. Nothing can delay or hasten it by even a moment. History itself stands as a witness, filled with destroyed civilizations whose remains are still visible, yet people pass by them without reflection. These signs aren’t for the heedless, they’re for those who think deeply, Human beings boast about their capabilities, but they can’t even create themselves or avoid their end. Death is not random, nor is it an accident, it’s a decree from the Creator. And not only death, but transformation awaits, forms and realities beyond human understanding, Together, these verses expose the arrogance of those who deny accountability and live as if they’re in control. Whether one accepts it or not, life and death are part of a divine plan, and ignoring it doesn’t change its certainty.
Quran 4:78
Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, “This is from Allah”; and if evil befalls them, they say, “This is from you.” Say, “All [things] are from Allah.” So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?
Quran 7:34
And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
Quran 20:128
Does it not guide them how many generations We destroyed before them, among whose dwellings they walk? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.
Quran 56:58-61
Have you seen that which you emit? Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone in that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.
5. Resurrection: Allah’s Power to Revive
Each of these verses carries its own specific context and historical background, yet when viewed together, they address a recurring theme: the rejection of divine truth, whether through atheism, denial of resurrection, or disbelief in divine power. These verses aren’t only tied to one time or group, they speak to human arrogance, forgetfulness, and the illusion of self-sufficiency, While originally revealed for certain situations, their message goes beyond those moments. They challenge modern attitudes too, especially those who question the existence of a Creator, deny accountability, or mock the idea of life after death. The Qur’an presents signs within creation, life, death, and history, not to force belief, but to offer clarity for those who reflect, Whether a person disbelieves out of arrogance or ignorance, these verses confront their mindset directly. They show that disbelief isn’t just about rejecting a religion, it’s about turning away from the very signs of one’s own creation, origin, and inevitable return. The Qur’an lets these signs speak for themselves, how a person responds to them reveals their inner state.
Quran 10:4
To Him is your return all together. [It is] the promise of Allah [which is] truth. Indeed, He begins the [process of] creation and then repeats it that He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds, in justice. But those who disbelieved will have a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment for what they used to deny.
Quran 10:34
Say, “Are there of your ‘partners’ any who begins creation and then repeats it?” Say, “Allah begins creation and then repeats it, so how are you deluded?”
Quran 14:10
Their messengers said, “Can there be doubt about Allah, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays your death for a specified term.” They said, “You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority.”
Quran 17:49-51
And they say, “When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected as a new creation?” Say, “Be you stones or iron or [any] creation of that which is great within your breasts.” And they will say, “Who will restore us?” Say, “He who brought you forth the first time.” Then they will nod their heads toward you and say, “When is that?” Say, “Perhaps it will be soon.”
Quran 19:9
He said, “Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.’”
Quran 19:66-67
And man says, “When I have died, will I then be brought forth alive?” Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?
Quran 22:5
O people, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot, and then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed—that We may show you. And We settle in the wombs whom We will for a specified term, then We bring you out as a child, and then [We develop you] that you may reach your [time of] maturity. And among you is he who is taken in [early] death, and among you is he who is returned to the most decrepit [old] age so that he knows, after [once having] knowledge, nothing. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and swells and grows [something] of every beautiful kind.
Quran 22:66
And it is He who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will give you life [again]. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful.
Quran 29:19
Have they not considered how Allah begins creation and then repeats it? Indeed that, for Allah, is easy.
Quran 29:20
Say, [O Muhammad], “Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent.”
Quran 30:11
Allah begins creation; then He will repeat it; then to Him you will be returned.
Quran 30:27
And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him. To Him belongs the highest attribute in the heavens and earth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Quran 32:10
And they say, “When we are lost within the earth, will we indeed be [created] anew?” Rather, they are, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, disbelievers.
Quran 35:3
O mankind, remember the favor of Allah upon you. Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the heaven and earth? There is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?
Quran 36:12
Indeed, it is We who give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before and that which they leave behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.
Quran 36:78-79
And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, “Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?” Say, “He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing.”
Quran 40:57
The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know.
Quran 46:3
We created not the heavens and earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. But those who disbelieve, from that of which they are warned, are turning away.
Quran 46:33
Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and earth and did not fail in their creation, is able to give life to the dead? Yes. Indeed, He is over all things competent.
Quran 50:3-4
When we have died and have become dust, [we will return to life]? That is a distant return. We know what the earth diminishes of them, and with Us is a retaining record.
Quran 50:15
Were We incapable of the first creation? No, but they are in confusion over a new creation.
Quran 52:35-38
Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain. Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority.
Quran 53:45-47
And that He creates the two mates, the male and female, from a sperm-drop when it is emitted and that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation and that it is He who enriches and suffices.
Quran 56:47-50
And they used to say, “When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? And our forefathers [as well]?” Say, “Indeed, the former and the later peoples are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day.”
Quran 56:57
We have created you, so why do you not believe?
Quran 75:36-40
Does man think that he will be left neglected? Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted, then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him] and made of him two mates, the male and female. Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
Quran 79:27-33
Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it. He raised its ceiling and proportioned it. And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness. And after that He spread the earth. He extracted from it its water and its pasture, and the mountains He set firmly as provision for you and your grazing livestock.
6. Judgment and Consequences: The Final Reckoning
Although each of these verses was revealed in its own distinct historical context, addressing specific people, incidents, or behaviors, they collectively confront a recurring mindset found across time: the rejection of truth, the denial of divine signs, and the arrogance that leads one away from submission to Allah. Whether directed toward disbelievers, hypocrites, or the ungrateful among the People of the Book, the message is broader and timeless, Together, these verses speak directly to the attitude of disbelief, whether it manifests as atheism, arrogance, spiritual ignorance, or hypocrisy. The Qur’an shows that disbelief isn’t always about words, it can be rooted in pride, denial after receiving knowledge, or refusing to reflect despite all signs around and within oneself. These warnings aren’t limited to any one group; they apply to anyone who turns away from truth after recognizing it, So while each verse has a specific context, they all reflect a greater reality: that disbelief in any form leads to separation from guidance. They confront modern tendencies too, materialism, mockery, and the false confidence that there will be no accountability. These verses allow no escape from consequence, whether one denies God’s existence or simply chooses to ignore His signs. The Qur’an speaks to the reader in whatever condition they are in, and how one responds shows the state of their soul.
Quran 2:39
