Treating Women Well in Islam
📖Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1162
Abu Hurairah narrated that The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The most complete of the believers in faith is the one with the best character among them. And the best of you are those who are best to your women.”
Explanation:
This hadith sets the standard: True iman (faith) is proven by good character, and the highest level of character is shown in how a man treats women in his life, The Prophet ﷺ didn’t measure “best believers” by how much they pray, fast, or preach – but by their (manners), especially in the private, daily treatment of women – wives, daughters, sisters, and mothers.
A man can pretend outside, but his reality is how he behaves at home. If you’re harsh, cold, or selfish with the women closest to you – your iman is incomplete.
What We Learn Today:
- Being “religious” isn’t enough – character is the proof.
- If you mistreat women under your responsibility, no title, beard, or public image can save you.
- Goodness to women is not optional – it’s part of completing your faith.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 30:21
And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, so that you may find comfort in them. And He placed between you affection and mercy. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.
Quranic Context: Marriage is built on tranquility, mercy, and mutual care – not dominance, neglect, or emotional distance.
📖Quran 4:19
Live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike something in which Allah has placed much good.
Quranic Context: Allah commands patience and honor even when feelings are tested – good treatment is not based on mood or emotions, but on taqwa and duty.
