True Muslims Do Not Harm or Deceive

📖Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 101
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, Whoever raises arms against us is not one of us. Whoever deceives us is not one of us.

Explanation:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of loyalty, honesty, and unity within the Muslim community. Islam strictly condemns treachery, deception, and violence against fellow Muslims. Raising arms or committing betrayal against the community violates the principles of faith and severs one’s connection with the true teachings of Islam.

Application Today:
In modern context, this hadith teaches us that disobedience and betrayal take many forms, not just physical violence. Actions that go against Allah, the Qur’an, or the Sunnah – whether in society, work, or personal relationships – reflect the same principles of betrayal.

Examples of actions considered as “raising arms” or “deceiving”:

  • Deliberately harming other Muslims physically or emotionally
  • Lying, cheating, or spreading false information
  • Betraying trusts or commitments
  • Opposing the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah intentionally
  • Encouraging others to commit sins or shirk obligations

Qur’anic Context:

📖Quran 49:10
“The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.”

📖Quran 8:27
“O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].”

📖Quran 3:159
“So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter.”

The hadith reminds Muslims to uphold honesty, trust, and loyalty in all aspects of life. Betrayal, deception, or violence against others is not only socially destructive but also spiritually damaging, separating one from the essence of faith.
