📖Sahih al-Bukhari 7379

Ibn `Umar narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The keys of the unseen are five and none knows them but Allah: (1) None knows what will happen tomorrow but Allah; (2) None knows what is in the womb but Allah; (3) None knows when it will rain but Allah; (4) None knows where he will die but Allah; (5) And none knows when the Hour (Day of Judgment) will occur but Allah.”

The Five Unseen Matters

  1. What will happen tomorrow
  2. What is in the womb
  3. When and where it will rain
  4. Where a person will die
  5. When the Day of Judgment will occur

These are matters of absolute knowledge, known only by Allah from the beginning of time.

Clarification on “What Is in the Womb”

Some think this only refers to the baby’s gender – but it’s far deeper than that.

It includes:

  • Whether the child will live or die early
  • The child’s health and illnesses
  • Their rizq (provision)
  • Their actions, character, and future
  • Whether they will be good or evil
  • Whether they will die as a believer or disbeliever

This is not something a scan or doctor can ever predict.

📖Quran 22:5
…Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.

📖Quran 23:13-14
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging (the womb). Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, then We made the clot into a lump… then We produced it as another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.

This does not mean Allah is physically shaping every embryo like a human craftsman with His hands.

Rather, it means:
Allah created the system – the biological process of reproduction, growth, and development – and designed it perfectly. Every cell division, genetic code, hormone, and signal follows a system created by Allah.

So the credit still goes to Him entirely, because:

  • He designed the system
  • He controls its function
  • He gives life and soul
  • He decides the outcome – not biology alone

Just as a programmer designs an app – even if the app runs automatically, the credit still belongs to the coder. Allah is the Creator of the entire biological program.

Some people ask:

“But we know the weather, we know the baby’s gender, we know our schedule tomorrow…”

Here’s the response:

  • Weather forecasts are just predictions, not certainty. They can change at any moment. Allah knows the exact drop, timing, and location – science cannot.
  • Gender scans show what has already been formed – but Allah knew it before it even existed. Even if a machine sees it now, Allah knew it from the sperm stage, even before implantation.
  • You may plan your tomorrow, but you don’t control if it will actually happen. Only Allah knows who will live, who will die, or what may occur suddenly.
Quranic Context:

📖Quran 31:34
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour, sends down the rain, and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Aware.

📖Quran 6:59
And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.
