Separation and division is from the devil
📖Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2628
Abu Tha’labah reported: The people would set up camp and disperse into the trails and valleys. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, This scattering of yours into the trails and valleys is from Satan.” After that, they never set up camp unless they were close to each other, so much so that it was said a single blanket could be spread over them all.
What it means:
The Prophet ﷺ taught that unnecessary separation weakens the unity of the Muslim community. Dispersing in valleys and paths made them easy targets – physically for enemies, and spiritually for Shayṭān. Unity gives strength; division opens doors to misguidance, whispering, fear, and attacks. So he called this type of scattering a tactic “from Satan.”
What we learn today:
- Isolation weakens faith; unity strengthens it.
- Even in travel, safety, prayer, and life – Muslims are encouraged to be close, organized, and cooperative.
- Disorganized or divided communities are more vulnerable to false ideologies, anxiety, or manipulation.
- Social isolation in today’s world (especially digital life) leads to spiritual distance, misunderstanding, and individualism – tools of Satan.
Important Reminder:
Any tool that does not lead you toward Allah can become a tool of Satan
Examples of such tools today when misused:
- Smartphones: When used for haram content (pornography, gossip, hate).
- Social media: When it fuels arrogance, jealousy, or promotes falsehood.
- Entertainment platforms: Netflix, YouTube, Instagram when they normalize sin or waste time.
- Private chats/DMs: Used for flirting, backbiting, or vulgar behavior.
- AI tools & digital avatars: When used for fake identities or spreading immoral content.
- Headphones: Isolate people from family and real interaction.
- Streaming services: Provide easy access to nudity, music, vulgarity, and un-Islamic ideologies.
Islam does not forbid tools – but forbids the misuse of them, The hadith reminds us: Spiritual and physical isolation are doors Satan uses. Islam teaches balance – connection to Allah, community, and discipline in how we use tools in our life, If the thing you’re using takes you away from Allah, you’re already walking into the trap – even if you don’t realize it.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 4:83
“…Had they referred it back to the Messenger or those in authority among them, the ones who can draw correct conclusions would have known it. Were it not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan—except for a few.”
Most people fall into Satan’s trap when they act on their own without unity, knowledge, or consultation.
📖Quran 6:112
“And so We have made for every prophet enemies – devils from mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another decorative speech in delusion…”
Shayṭān isn’t just Iblīs (the jinn); humans who spread his whispers, doubts, division, and lies are also called Shayāṭīn (devils).
📖Quran 114:1-6
“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind… from the evil of the whisperer… who whispers in the hearts of mankind — from among jinn and mankind.”
Satanic whispers come from both invisible jinn and corrupt humans. Disunity, suspicion, and unnecessary fear are among these whispers.
The hadith isn’t just about travel or camping. It teaches a timeless lesson: Satan (jinn or human) thrives when Muslims are divided, scattered, and disconnected. Unity is protection. When the ummah moves together – physically, spiritually, and intellectually – Satan’s power weakens.
