📖Sahih Muslim 1735 c / Sahih al-Bukhari 6178
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah will set up a flag for every person guilty of breach of faith (treachery) on the Day of Judgment, and it will be announced: ‘Look, this is the perfidy of so-and-so.’”
Description:
This hadith emphasizes the seriousness of betrayal and breach of trust (غَدْر / ghadar) in Islam. On the Day of Judgment, every traitor will be publicly exposed – a flag will be raised to mark their treachery, and their name will be called out for all to see. This flag is a symbol of disgrace, not just a physical marker, The Prophet ﷺ made it clear: Betrayal isn’t forgotten. Whether in war, business, relationships, or leadership, a person who breaks trust for personal gain will carry the shame eternally unless forgiven by Allah.
Why a flag? Why public exposure?
- Symbolism for Accountability
Flags are symbols – used for identity and representation. On that Day, it’s not for Allah’s benefit – it’s for creation to witness justice. The one who deceived others privately will now be disgraced publicly. - Public shame fits public betrayal
If a betrayal hurt many people or caused widespread damage (like political corruption, military betrayal, backstabbing allies), then public exposure is a just punishment. It matches the scale of the crime. - It silences excuses
When people see the flag and hear the name, there are no more lies, no cover-ups, no “PR” management like in the dunya. - Justice isn’t just punishment-it’s warning
Public flags warn others about the gravity of betrayal. It’s not about Allah needing a flag – it’s you needing to face what you did without hiding. - It restores dignity to victims
Victims of betrayal often live in silence. On that Day, their suffering will be validated. The oppressor gets exposed – and the oppressed is honored.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 8:27
O you who believe! Do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor betray your trusts knowingly.
→ Islam directly forbids betrayal – whether toward God, Prophet, or other humans.
📖Quran 3:161
It is not possible for a prophet to act dishonestly. And whoever betrays shall bring forth what he betrayed on the Day of Judgment.
→ What you stole or hid will be exposed before everyone.
📖Quran 6:94
And you have certainly come to Us alone, just as We created you the first time, and you have left behind whatever We had bestowed upon you.
→ All false images, reputations, and power you built are stripped. What remains is your truth.
📖Quran 10:17
Who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah or denies His revelations? Surely the wrongdoers will not succeed.
→ Deceivers will be marked, not just quietly judged.
Modern Relevance:
This hadith crushes the idea that “you can fool people and escape.” Many lie, manipulate, and betray – and society may still respect them. But on the Day of Judgment, their flag will fly – not as honor, but as humiliation. That’s divine justice. And for those who laugh at such hadiths thinking, “Why does Allah need to use human-like symbols?” – the point is not Allah’s need, it’s your exposure, your humiliation, your legacy of betrayal being seen by all, The flag is not a joke – it’s the final stamp of disgrace from the One you betrayed.
