The Prophet helps his fellow travelers
📖Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2639
The Messenger of Allah ï·º used to stay at the rear while travelling, encourage the weak, carry someone behind him, and make dua for everyone.
Description:
This hadith shows the humility, compassion, and leadership style of the Prophet ï·º:
- He didn’t race ahead for status or convenience.
- He stayed at the back, where the weak, tired, and slow usually fall behind.
- He would help, motivate, and even offer them a ride, showing real care.
- He also made supplication (du’a) for everyone, including those struggling.
It wasn’t about reaching the destination fastest – it was about lifting others up along the way.
- This is leadership by example. True leaders:
- Walk behind the people, not over them.
- Check on the vulnerable, not just the strong.
- Make people feel seen, supported, and included.
- This hadith isn’t just about physical travel – it’s a model for life’s journey:
- Be someone who slows down for others.
- Don’t leave the weak behind – emotionally, socially, financially, or spiritually.
- Make du’a for people quietly, without needing recognition.
What We Learn Today:
In a world obsessed with rushing to the top, this hadith teaches:
- Compassion is greater than competition.
- Be the person who looks out for the forgotten – the quiet student, the tired worker, the struggling friend.
- Leadership is not privilege; it’s responsibility to serve and support.
- Slow down for your parents. Help someone who lags behind in faith. Make sincere du’a for others without telling them.
This is Prophetic character – and sadly rare today.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 9:128
There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.
→ The Prophet ï·º wasn’t distant – he felt the pain of his people.
📖Quran 33:21
Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.
→ His actions are a template for us – mercy, humility, and inclusion.
📖Quran 5:2
…Help one another in righteousness and piety, but do not help one another in sin and aggression…
→ We are not meant to leave others behind, but to help lift them up.
The Prophet ï·º didn’t just lead from the front – he lifted from the back. He taught us that real greatness is helping the weak, walking with humility, and praying for others in silence. If you’re racing ahead in life but leaving people behind – you’re going the wrong way.
