Allah and the Control of Time

📖Sahih Muslim 2246 b
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: The son of Adam displeases Me by abusing Dahr (Time), whereas I am Dahr- I alternate the night and the day.

Explanation:
In this hadith, Allah is warning us: when people blame or curse time (Dahr) for hardships – they are in fact attacking the One who controls time: Allah. He says: “I am Dahr”, meaning He is the one who brings about night and day, time and events – not time itself.

But today, the problem goes beyond just cursing time. People blaspheme Allah directly:

  • They mock His commands on modesty, marriage, and morality.
  • They disobey His laws and proudly promote sin.
  • They reject accountability, acting like this life is theirs to waste.
  • They openly say things like: “Why would God care if I skip prayer?” or “Why does God get angry?” — which is blatant arrogance and rebellion.

This is exactly what the hadith warns about: blaming the system without recognizing the One who designed it  – and worse, insulting the Designer Himself.

  • I alternate the night and the day” means the system of time – day, night, seasons – is not random. Allah runs it all, This alternation is a system, and Allah is the One controlling it. Just like the sun and moon follow orbits, so does time move under Allah’s control.

Quranic Context:

📖Quran 25:62
He is the One who made the night and the day alternate – a sign for whoever desires to be mindful or show gratitude.

📖Quran 36:38-40
The sun runs its course for a term appointed… It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outpace the day. Each is floating in an orbit.
The system is fixed – not by “nature” or “chance” – but by the Almighty Himself.

📖Quran 45:24
They say, “There is nothing but our worldly life. We die and live, and nothing destroys us but time.” Yet they have no knowledge of this – they only speculate.
This verse directly exposes today’s mindset: people deny God and say “Time” controls everything, while mocking religion. Allah calls it ignorant speculation.

When people curse time, blame fate, or insult Allah, they forget:

  • He designed time, He controls every orbit, He gives life and takes it, So when they insult God or His system, it’s not “just opinion” – it’s rebellion against the One who controls everything.
