Hadith on Tawhid: It reaches the Throne if major sins avoided

📖Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3590
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Never does a servant sincerely say, ‘There is no God but Allah,’ but that the gates of heaven open for it, even leading to the Throne itself, as long as he avoids major sins.”

Major Sins in Islam

Below are major sins mentioned clearly in Hadith and Qur’an:

1. Shirk (Associating partners with Allah)

   Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating others with Him, but He forgives anything else of whoever He wills.

2. Murder (Unjust killing)
   📖Quran 5:32
   Whoever kills a soul… it is as if he had slain all mankind.

3. Sorcery
   📖Quran 2:102
   They learned what harms them and does not benefit them…

4. Not Paying Zakat
   📖Quran 9:34-35
   Those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it… their sides will be branded…

5. Disrespect to Parents
   📖Sahih al-Bukhari 5977
   Shall I not tell you the greatest of the major sins?… Disrespect to parents…

6. Consuming Interest (Riba)
   📖Quran 2:275
   Those who consume interest will stand like the one beaten by Satan into insanity.

7. False Testimony / Lying
   📖Sahih al-Bukhari 5977
   False testimony is one of the greatest sins.

8. Drinking Alcohol
   📖Quran 5:90
   Intoxicants… are abominations of Satan’s handiwork.

9. Illegal Sexual Intercourse (Zina)
   📖Quran 17:32
   Do not go near adultery. It is truly a shameful deed.

10. Fleeing the Battlefield
    📖Quran 8:15-16
    Whoever turns his back… incurs the wrath of Allah.

11. Backbiting and Slander
    📖Quran 49:12
    Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother?

12. Pride and Arrogance
    📖Sunan Ibn Majah 59
    No one who has an atom’s weight of pride in his heart will enter Paradise.

📖Quran 4:17
Allah only accepts the repentance of those who do evil ignorantly or carelessly and then repent soon after. It is they to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.

This verse shows that forgiveness is conditional when sins are committed out of ignorance or without deliberate rebellion. Once a person knows the truth, intentionally persisting in sin becomes far more severe, Some major sins like lying, backbiting, or even fleeing from battle out of fear or personal weakness can be forgiven if sincere repentance is made, However, sins such as murder, adultery, or disrespecting one’s parents are far more serious. These are left entirely to Allah’s judgment. We cannot declare whether such sins are forgiven or not, only Allah knows the truth of someone’s repentance and sincerity.
