📖Sahih al-Bukhari 7288
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Leave me as I leave you, for the people who were before you were ruined because of their questions and their differences over their prophets. So, if I forbid you to do something, then keep away from it. And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can.”

Description:
This hadith shows the wisdom of the Prophet ﷺ in preventing unnecessary overthinking or excessive questioning in religion. People before us went astray not because they lacked guidance, but because they argued, debated, and questioned their prophets beyond reason. The Prophet ﷺ teaches a balance – avoid prohibited things completely, but when something is commanded, do it sincerely to the best of your ability. Islam is a religion of ease and submission, not endless debate.

What We Learn From It Today:

  1. Avoid Unnecessary Questions: Stop trying to twist religious teachings with over-analysis or modern reinterpretations. Past nations were destroyed for that.

  2. Obedience Over Argument: Focus on following what’s clear, not debating what you cannot fully understand.

  3. Apply Islam Practically: If the Prophet ﷺ ordered something, follow it sincerely – but Islam also acknowledges human limitations, so do as much as you can within your capacity.

Quranic Context:

📖Quran 33:36
It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have any other choice about their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.

Explanation:
The Qur’an is the word of Allah – but the decisions referred to in this verse are often not directly in the Qur’an. They come through the Prophet’s explanation and application – which is the Sunnah.

The Prophet ﷺ did not speak on his own —
📖Quran 53:3-4
Nor does he speak from his own desire. It is only a revelation revealed.

So when the Prophet decides, it’s not a personal opinion – it’s based on divine guidance. The Qur’an gave the foundation, but the Prophet ﷺ completed the practical details – like how to pray, fast, perform Hajj, or handle disputes – through his actions, commands, and judgments. That is Sunnah, The decision mentioned in Quran 33:36 is often not found in the Qur’an word-for-word, but is established through the Sunnah – the Prophet’s practical explanation of Allah’s guidance, So rejecting the Sunnah is like rejecting the decision of Allah Himself.
