Achieving Balance in Worship and Sunnah

📖Sahih Muslim 1401
Anas (رضي الله عنه) reported: Some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ asked his wives about his private acts of worship. One of them said: “I will not marry women.” Another said: “I will not eat meat.” Another said: “I will not sleep on a bed.” The Prophet ﷺ then praised Allah, and said “What is wrong with these people who say such things? As for me, I pray and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I marry women, Whoever turns away from my Sunnah has nothing to do with me.”

Description:

This hadith addresses extremism in worship. Some companions thought they could get closer to Allah by giving up halal pleasures like marriage, food, and rest. But the Prophet ﷺ corrected them by showing that true Islam is balanced, not self-harming or unnatural. The Prophet ﷺ lived a life of worship and moderation — he prayed, fasted, rested, ate, and married. His way (Sunnah) is the perfect balance between spirituality and humanity.

What We Learn Today:

✅ Islam is not about self-torture or going to extremes in worship.
✅ Real piety is following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ – not inventing new ways.
✅ Marriage, sleep, and food are not distractions – they are part of a healthy, faithful life.
✅ Anyone who ignores or rejects the Sunnah is actually stepping away from Islam itself.

Quranic Context:

1. Following the Messenger = Following Allah

📖Quran 4:80
“Whoever obeys the Messenger has truly obeyed Allah. But whoever turns away — We have not sent you (O Prophet) as a keeper over them.”

Following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is obedience to Allah Himself.

2. No Compulsion in Worship Beyond Limits

📖Quran 2:286
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.”
Islam never asks you to destroy your body or reject halal pleasures.

3. Messenger is the Best Example

📖Quran 33:21
“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have a perfect example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”
The balanced lifestyle of the Prophet ﷺ is the ideal model — not extremes or innovations.
