Give sincere advice when your brother seeks it
📖Sunan Ibn Mājah 3747
Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “If your brother requests your consultation, let him give counsel.
This hadith highlights the responsibility of giving sincere advice when a fellow Muslim seeks guidance. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that consultation (shūrā) should be answered with honesty and care, for it strengthens trust and unity among believers.
It means that when someone asks for your counsel, you should not withhold advice, deceive, or misguide them. Instead, you must provide guidance based on truth, fairness, and what is best for their situation
From this, we learn today the importance of integrity in advice – whether in personal life, business, studies, or community matters. People often make life decisions based on counsel, and misleading them can cause harm. Thus, Muslims are called to sincerity, responsibility, and selflessness when consulted.
