📖Sahih Muslim 23a
Abu Malik reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “He who professed that there is no god but Allah and made a denial of everything which the people worship beside Allah – his property and blood became inviolable, and their affairs rest with Allah.”
Description:
-
This Hadith means: once a person declares “La ilaha illallah” (There is no god except Allah) and truly rejects all false gods or objects of worship, then his life, property, and honor become protected – not by people, but by the system that Allah established.
This protection doesn’t mean that Allah Himself comes down physically to guard him – rather, it is:
Allah’s law, justice, and divine system
— that now applies to him and protects him.For example:
-
Killing him becomes a major crime.
-
Stealing from him is prohibited and punishable.
-
Harming him is like violating Allah’s boundaries.
So while the protection happens through people, the credit goes only to Allah, because:
-
He created the system.
-
He sent the Messenger ﷺ with it.
-
He made belief the condition for it.
-
-
His final judgment is with Allah – only Allah knows if he was sincere or faking it.
How a Human Naturally Recognizes Allah – Even Without Books or Teachers
1. Born in a Pure Place or a Corrupt One – the Soul Knows the Truth
Whether someone is born in a clean place or surrounded by evil, the soul (fitrah) is pure and recognizes truth. A person’s mind might get confused, but deep inside, they feel:
“Someone created me, gives me life, and will take me back.”
That “Someone” is Allah – the only One worthy of worship.
2. In Sudden Danger – Everyone Calls One God, Not Many
When disaster strikes:
- A plane is crashing
- An earthquake hits
- A person is drowning
- A car loses control
They never shout:
“O Shiva! O Jesus! O idols! O saints!”
Instead, they cry from the heart:
“Oh God! Oh Allah! Save me!”
You never scream “O Trinity!” or “O Elephant God!” when your life is at risk.
Even atheists call on Him – because the soul knows Who is real.
📖Quran 10:22
“When you sail in ships and a favorable wind carries them, they rejoice. But when a storm comes and waves surround them from every side, and they think they are engulfed, they call upon Allah, sincere in their faith: ‘If You save us, we will surely be grateful.’”
3. No One Confused at Death – Only the Truth Comes Out
At the moment of real fear:
- The brain stops lying
- The heart stops pretending
- The tongue says what the soul already knows
📖Quran 31:32
“And when waves overwhelm them like mountains, they call upon Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to land, some of them become moderate…”
4. Fitrah: The Built-in Compass That Points to Allah
Even if someone is never taught religion, never reads scripture – their soul has natural GPS:
- Recognizes a single Creator
- Rejects worshipping created things
- Feels humility before the unseen Power
This is what the Hadith refers to: Whoever says “La ilaha illallah” with sincerity, rejecting all fake gods – his life and wealth are protected. The judgment is then with Allah, who knows sincerity
Additional Information
This hadith is specifically about Muslims – those who sincerely declare La ilaha illallah and reject all forms of shirk. Their life and property become protected under Islamic law. This protection is not by Allah physically intervening, but through the law system He established – which means the credit still goes to Him, While this hadith speaks about Muslims, there are other hadiths and laws in Islam that also protect non-Muslims living under Islamic rule – such as dhimmis (non-Muslim citizens), treaty-holders, and peaceful residents. They too are protected in their lives, wealth, and rights under Islamic law, as long as they don’t commit treachery or hostility.
