The Impact of Scholars Beyond Death
đSahih Muslim 2673 a
âAbdullah b. âAmr b. al-âAs reported: The Messenger of Allah ï·ș said âVerily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars. Then, when He leaves no learned person, people turn to the ignorant as their leaders. They are asked for religious verdicts and they give them without knowledge â they go astray and lead others astray.â
End Times Warning
This Hadith is a clear sign of the end times – when:
- Real scholars pass away, and no one remains to speak the truth based on Qur’an and Sunnah.
- Fake preachers and influencers take their place, giving fatwas from desire, culture, or politics – not from revelation.
- As a result, entire communities go astray.
đSunan Ibn Majah 3986
The Prophet ï·ș said: Islam began as something strange and will return to being strange as it began. So give glad tidings to the strangers.â
This means in the end times:
- True knowledge will become rare, strange, even rejected.
- Those who hold firmly to the Qurâan and Sunnah will be looked at as strange or backward.
đQuran 25:30
And the Messenger will say, âO my Lord, indeed my people have abandoned this Qurâan.ââ
Explanation:
This isn’t just about leaving the Qurâanâs recitation. It means:
- They abandoned its meanings
- Ignored its laws
- Didnât follow its guidance in life
They may still âreciteâ it – but their hearts and actions are far from it.
đQuran 45:23
Have you seen the one who takes his own desire as his god? Then Allah leaves him astray despite knowledge…â
Explanation:
Even if people have access to knowledge, when they:
- Choose their desires over Allahâs commands,
- Ignore scholars or warnings â
Allah lets them go astray because they chose arrogance and ego over submission.
What does this mean?
These verses refer to the people living in the time when scholars died and ignorance spread:
- They abandoned the Qurâan in practice
- They followed their hawa (desire) instead of divine truth
- And they became misled, not because Allah forced them – but because they rejected what was given
Thatâs why the Hadith says:
â…people take the ignorant as leaders, and they lead others astray.â
But Will True Islam Be Forgotten Forever?
No. The Prophet ï·ș also gave hope:
đSunan Abi Dawud 4291
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Messenger of Allah ï·ș said âIndeed, Allah will raise for this Ummah at the head of every hundred years someone who will renew (ÙÙŰŹÙŰŻÙÙŰŻÙ) for it its religion.â
Explanation:
This Hadith proves that even when Islam appears lost, Allah sends a reviver (mujaddid) every century – to bring people back to the Qurâan and Sunnah. That reformer:
- Removes innovation (bidâah)
- Revives lost knowledge
- Corrects misguidance
đQuran 29:69
And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our paths. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.
Explanation:
This is a guarantee from Allah: if someone sincerely puts in the effort – with honest intention and seeking truth
