Be patient with rulers until you meet Prophet Muhammad

📖Sahih al-Bukhari 3793
Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet ﷺ said to the Ansar: “After me you will see others given preference to you; so be patient till you meet me, and your promised place (of meeting) will be the Tank (i.e., Lake of Al-Kawthar).”

Best Description:
This hadith is the Prophet’s ﷺ heartfelt address to the Ansar – the loyal helpers from Madinah who supported him during the most difficult phases of Islam. He foresaw that after his death, power and privilege would shift, and others would be given priority over the Ansar in wealth, leadership, and influence. This was a prophecy, not a justification, The Prophet ﷺ encouraged patience, not passive silence in the face of oppression. He assured them that their true reward was not in worldly leadership, but in meeting him at the Lake of Al-Kawthar in the Hereafter – a reward beyond worldly injustice.

What We Learn Today:

  • Patience does not mean accepting evil.
  • The Prophet ﷺ advised patience when there’s no way to stop oppression, but Islam never teaches to submit to injustice willingly.
  • If you’re able to speak, protest, or stop evil, you must — but if the harm becomes greater, and change isn’t possible, then sabr (patience) becomes the righteous path.
  • The hadith reminds us that temporary injustice in this world does not cancel eternal reward.

Speak Against Evil

📖Quran 4:135
O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses for Allah — even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your relatives.
Islam demands that we speak against evil, even when it’s uncomfortable.

📖Quran 3:104
Let there be a group among you who call to goodness, enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong — it is they who will be successful.
We are commanded to stop wrong – not tolerate it silently.

Speak Against Evil – Hadith Reference:

📖Hadith 34, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever among you sees evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart – and that is the weakest of faith.”

Conclusion:
The hadith to the Ansar was not a command to tolerate oppression without objection. It was a prophecy of hard times, and a reminder that ultimate justice lies with Allah. You must resist evil, but if you’re overpowered, then patience with faith becomes your strength – because your reward is not lost, This world may fail you – but Al-Kawthar never will.
