Protecting Orphans and Women

📖Sunan Ibn Majah 3678
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“O Allah, bear witness that I have issued a warning concerning (failure to fulfill) the rights of the two weak ones: Orphans and women.”

This hadith is a strong declaration by the Prophet ﷺ emphasizing the protection and preservation of the rights of orphans and women – two groups commonly oppressed or neglected in society. By invoking Allah as a witness, the Prophet ﷺ placed the utmost seriousness on this warning, making it a matter of accountability before God, The use of the term “two weak ones” doesn’t mean they are inferior, but rather reflects their vulnerability in unjust societies that fail to provide them with protection, justice, and fair treatment. • Today, when orphaned children are abused, trafficked, or neglected, and when women are oppressed, misused, or made to bear burdens without rights – this hadith stands as a divine warning still echoing across centuries.

Quranic Context:

📖Quran 4:2
Give orphans their wealth when they reach maturity and do not exchange your worthless things for their good ones, or consume their wealth by combining it with your own. Surely, this is a great sin.
The Qur’an makes it clear that orphans have financial and emotional rights that must not be violated.

📖Quran 4:19
O believers! It is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will or mistreat them to reclaim part of the dowry. Live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike something in which Allah has placed much good.
Women are not to be treated as property or mistreated in relationships. Their consent and dignity are sacred.

📖Quran 93:9-10
So do not oppress the orphan, and do not repel the beggar.
A direct reminder that compassion and care for the weak is part of faith.
