Every claimant is entitled to speak

📖Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2401
Abu Huraira reported: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking the settlement of his loans and he spoke harshly to him. This disturbed his companions, but the Prophet said, Leave him alone, for everyone with a right is entitled to speak.

Description:

The hadith shows that a person claiming their right may speak firmly or harshly. The Prophet ï·º allowed this but also taught moderation in anger and harshness, maintaining dignity and respect in speech.

What Does It Mean?

  • Firm speech to assert rights is allowed, but anger and harshness should be controlled.
  • The Prophet ï·º himself was gentle even when faced with harshness or anger.
  • Islam encourages patience, forgiveness, and avoiding excessive anger or hurtful speech.
Controlling Anger and Harsh Speech:

📖Quran 3:134
“Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people—and Allah loves the doers of good.”
— Emphasizes controlling anger and forgiving others.

📖Quran 41:34
“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.”
— Encourages responding to harshness with kindness.

📖Quran 16:125
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best.”
— Advises gentle and wise speech, even in disagreement.

📖Quran 42:37
“And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive.”
— Praises forgiving those who control their anger.

What We Learn From It Today:

  • It is permissible to be firm in demanding rights, but anger must be controlled and not lead to injustice or harm.
  • Believers should strive to speak wisely and kindly, reflecting the Prophet’s example.
  • Even when others speak harshly, respond with patience and goodness to maintain harmony.
