The Love of Allah for Those Who Draw Near
📖Sahih al-Bukhari 6502
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: “Allah said: ‘I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. The most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me are the obligatory duties I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps coming closer to Me through voluntary deeds (Nawafil) until I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he grips, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely give him. If he seeks refuge in Me, I will surely protect him. And I do not hesitate in anything as I hesitate to take the soul of My believer slave – he hates death and I hate to disappoint him.’”
-
“I become his hearing/sight/hand/foot…”
This does not mean Allah literally becomes his body parts. Rather, it means Allah guides how the believer uses those faculties. He only hears what is good, sees what is pure, acts with righteousness, and walks in the path of truth. It’s a metaphor showing closeness and alignment with Allah’s will. -
“War against those hostile to My pious servant”
This refers to anyone who deliberately harms or oppresses those sincerely devoted to Allah, without repentance. If they die in that state, they will face Allah’s punishment in the afterlife. -
“If he seeks refuge, I will protect him”
This protection includes shielding him from devils, human enemies, evil whispers, and even his own destructive desires – both in this world and the next.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 41:30-31
“Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ and then remained steadfast — the angels will descend upon them, [saying], ‘Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised. We were your allies in worldly life and [are so] in the Hereafter…’”
→ This highlights protection and companionship from Allah and His angels for His sincere servants, especially at the time of death.
📖Quran 2:114
“And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His mosques and strive toward their destruction? It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them is disgrace in this world, and they will have a great punishment in the Hereafter.”
→ This verse warns that anyone who prevents worshippers, attacks mosques, or tries to demolish or defile places of worship is committing a grave injustice. Allah declares humiliation in this life and severe punishment in the Hereafter for such crimes, This connects with the earlier Hadith where Allah says He will declare war against those who show hostility to His beloved worshippers. Attacking believers, especially in places of worship, is among the worst forms of hostility.
📖Quran 17:65
“Indeed, My servants – you (Satan) have no authority over them. And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs.”
→ Allah guarantees protection from Satan for those who sincerely submit to Him.
This Hadith and its accompanying verses describe the deep spiritual bond between a believer and Allah – a connection built through sincere worship, love, and obedience. And anyone who harms such a believer without repentance is actually challenging Allah Himself – a war they cannot win.
