The Role of Sunnah in Attaining Paradise
📖Sahih al-Bukhari 7280
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” They said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Who will refuse?” He said, “Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it).”
This hadith clearly shows that rejecting the Sunnah is not a small matter – it’s a rejection of Paradise. The Prophet ﷺ speaks with divine authority, and obeying him is obeying Allah.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 4:80
“Whoever obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah. But whoever turns away — We have not sent you (O Muhammad) as a keeper over them.”
→ This does not mean the Prophet ﷺ is equal to Allah, it means he speaks on Allah’s behalf. Obeying him is obeying the One who sent him.
📖Quran 59:7
“…And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it. And fear Allah. Surely, Allah is severe in punishment.”
→ This proves the command is not only to follow the Qur’an, but also to follow the Sunnah and instructions of the Prophet ﷺ.
📖Quran 33:36
“It is not for a believing man or woman — when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter — to have any choice in their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has clearly gone far astray.”
→ Once the Prophet ﷺ has spoken, there’s no room for personal opinion or delay in obedience.
📖Quran 24:63
“So let those who oppose his (the Messenger’s) command beware, lest a trial strike them or a painful punishment befall them.”
→ Disobeying the Prophet ﷺ isn’t just disagreement – it’s rebellion against guidance.
This hadith shatters the false claim that “only Qur’an is enough.” If you truly believe in the Qur’an, you must believe in everything the Prophet ﷺ commanded, not only what was revealed in verses, but also what he lived and taught through his Sunnah. Rejecting the Sunnah = rejecting the Prophet = refusing Paradise.
