The Merit of Remembering Allah
📖Sahih al-Bukhari 6407
Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet ﷺ said, “The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not is like the living and the dead.”
Description:
The one who remembers Allah (through dhikr, prayer, Qur’an, and conscious obedience) is spiritually alive — their heart is awake, their purpose is clear, and they are surrounded by divine light, The one who forgets Allah is like the walking dead, alive on the outside, but hollow inside: lost, anxious, blind to right and wrong, Just as a body without water dies, a soul without remembrance of Allah suffocates in confusion, desire, and hopelessness.
What We Learn:
When you remember Allah:
- You live a meaningful, guided life.
- Your soul is at peace and free from depression and aimlessness.
- You are led by divine light, not worldly desire.
- You are protected from Satan’s control.
- You feel responsibility toward parents, society, and your own soul.
When you forget Allah:
- Shayṭān becomes your companion (📖Quran 43:36).
- Your heart becomes hardened.
- You start justifying evil: watching porn, disrespecting parents, abandoning prayer, cheating, backbiting, ignoring the poor, chasing adultery and desires.
- You lose gratitude and drown in anxiety and self-worship.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 13:28
Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
Dhikr revives the heart with peace and meaning, giving life to the soul.
📖Quran 8:24
O you who believe! Respond to Allah and His Messenger when He calls you to that which gives you life.”
Obeying divine guidance brings true spiritual life, without it, you’re spiritually dead.
📖Quran 39:22
Is one whose heart Allah has opened to Islam, so he walks in light from his Lord, like one whose heart is hardened?”
A heart alive with guidance is not equal to one dead and blind to the truth.
📖Quran 7:157
So those who believe in him (the Prophet), honor him, support him, and follow the light that was sent down with him, it is they who will be successful.”
The Qur’an is that light, sent down to remove ignorance, lies, and doubt.
📖Quran 5:15
“There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.”
The Qur’an itself is described as a light, guiding your thoughts, behavior, and soul.
When you follow the Qur’an, it will naturally lead you to remember Allah and do good.
Because the Qur’an constantly reminds, corrects, and guides.

📖Quran 29:45
“…Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Verily, prayer prevents immorality and wrongdoing. And the remembrance of Allah is greater…”
When you follow the Qur’an and pray, it builds a shield in your heart, leading you away from bad and towards Allah.
