Warning against violating rights by false testimony
📖Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 137
Abu Umamah reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, No man misappropriates the right of another Muslim using a false oath but that Allah will obligate his entrance into Hellfire and forbid his entrance into Paradise. A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, even if it is something insignificant? The Prophet ﷺ said, “Even if it is a twig of an Arak tree.”
Explanation
This ḥadīth warns that taking someone’s right – no matter how small – through lying or false oaths is a major sin that leads to Hellfire. Islam teaches that injustice, even over something minor, is recorded by Allah and will be judged.
What We Learn Today
- Integrity matters in all transactions, big or small.
- A “small lie” or “minor cheating” is still a serious sin in the sight of Allah.
- Justice is the foundation of faith; dishonesty destroys trust in society.
- We must avoid deliberate wrongdoing, but if we err unknowingly, Allah is Most Forgiving when we repent sincerely.
📖Qur’an 2:188
“And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you to consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful].”
📖Qur’an 99:7-8
“So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”
📖Qur’an 33:5
“There is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but only for what your hearts intended. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
-
Allah does not punish for unintentional mistakes, but intentional injustice is a grave sin.
