The Prophet is given five unique blessings

📖Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 438, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 521
Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “I have been given five things which were not given to anyone before me: Universal Mission: Every prophet was sent specifically to his people, but I have been sent to all of mankind – to every white and black person, Lawful Spoils of War: Spoils (booty) were made lawful for me, whereas they were not lawful for anyone before me, Purity of the Earth for Prayer: The entire earth has been made pure and a place of prayer, so a man can pray wherever he is when the time for prayer comes, Victory through Fear: I have been supported by my enemies being stricken with fear (a month’s journey away), Granted the Great Intercession: I have been granted the right of intercession on the Day of Judgment.

Explanation of Each Privilege

1. Universal Mission

  • Previous prophets were sent only to their own nation, but Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent as a mercy to all mankind.
  • Quran Support:
📖 “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Quran 21:107)

2. Lawful Spoils of War (Under Conditions)

  • Booty becomes lawful only after a legitimate battle, where the Muslim army defeats the enemy in a declared war.
  • It does NOT allow taking property from civilians, non-combatants, or anyone not fighting.
  • Quran Support:
📖 “And know that anything you obtain of war booty – then indeed, for Allah is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the traveler…” (Quran 8:41)
  • Prohibition of unlawful seizure:
📖 “It is not for a prophet to act unfaithfully. And whoever betrays will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection…” (Quran 3:161)
  • This verse shows it is haram for the Prophet ﷺ or any Muslim to take booty unlawfully.

3. Earth as a Place of Prayer

  • Previous nations had dedicated places of worship (temples, synagogues). Islam allows praying anywhere clean.
  • Quran Support:
📖O believers! When you rise up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of full impurity, then take a full bath. But if you are ill, on a journey, or have relieved yourselves, or have been intimate with your wives and cannot find water, then purify yourselves with clean earth by wiping your faces and hands. Allah does not intend to burden you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you, so you may be grateful.” (Quran 5:6)

This verse clearly shows that if water is not available – such as during travel – you can use clean earth for purification (Tayammum). This directly supports the Hadith that “the entire earth has been made pure and a place of prayer for me.” It means a Muslim can pray anywhere on earth, not just inside a mosque or near the Kaaba, as long as they fulfill purification conditions by lawful means.

4. Fear Struck into Enemies

  • Allah granted the Prophet ﷺ a divine help that enemies would fear him from a long distance (psychological warfare).
  • Quran Support:
📖 “We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve…” (Quran 3:151)

5. Granted Intercession

  • The Prophet ﷺ will intercede on the Day of Judgment for believers.
  • Quran Support:
    📖Quran 17:79
“And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station.”

What We Learn Today

  • Islam is universal – The message is for all humanity, no racism, no exclusivity.
  • However, Islam does not allow praying in places where it causes problems for people or in non-Muslim lands if it leads to conflict or hate.
  • War ethics in Islam – No aggression, no stealing, no harming civilians; spoils are only from legitimate battles.
  • Divine help is real – Victory depends on Allah, not just numbers.
  • Intercession is hope – Believers seek Allah’s mercy through the Prophet ﷺ on Judgment Day.

Lessons for Today

  1. Islam is universal – the message applies to all, not limited by race or tribe.
  2. Ease in worship – prayer is simple and can be performed anywhere (a sign of Allah’s mercy).
  3. Spiritual purity over rituals – even the ground is pure for prayer and tayammum when water is unavailable.
  4. Prophet’s special status – understanding his role strengthens our love and obedience.
  5. Hope in intercession – motivates believers to remain steadfast.

Qur’anic Context Supporting This Hadith

📖Quran 34:28
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except to all mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner, but most of the people do not know.”

📖Quran 8:41
And know that anything you obtain of war booty – then indeed, for Allah is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the traveler…

📖Qur’an 8:12
“I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, so strike them upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.”

Historical Context

  • This was revealed during the Battle of Badr, the first major battle where Quraysh attacked Muslims.
  • Muslims were outnumbered 3 to 1, and Allah reassured them of divine help.
  • “Cast terror” = instill fear, not random terror acts. Fear was placed in enemy hearts so they would lose courage, reducing bloodshed and ensuring Muslim survival.
  • The order “strike their necks” applied only in the battlefield, not outside war.
  • It was a defensive war, not an unprovoked attack. Quraysh had expelled Muslims from Makkah, seized their properties, and marched to kill them.

📖Qur’an 2:190
“Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.”
This makes it clear: fighting is only against aggressors, not peaceful people. So 8:12 was in a war scenario.

📖Quran 17:79 | Sahih al-Bukhari 7510
“It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praised station.”

This praised station refers to the great intercession on the Day of Judgment.
