The Four Major Sins in Islam
📖Sahih Muslim 88 a
Anas narrated from the Apostle (ï·º) about the major sins. He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Associating anyone with Allah, disobedience to parents, killing a person and false utterance.
Why these are MAJOR SINS:
1. Shirk, Associating anyone with Allah
The One who created you, placed your soul, designed your body, and placed the Earth with all its food, water, and systems – you forget Him? Even though you eat by your hands, He is the one who created the food, gave you hands, teeth, digestion, and the mind to use it, So it means He made the system that allows you to survive. Without Him, nothing would exist, but you forget Him and instead rely on others, praise others like He deserves to be praised, or call upon saints/idols as if they share His powers?
That’s not just betrayal – it’s spiritual rebellion.
2. Disobedience to Parents
They sacrificed everything for you when you were helpless. Allah placed immense value on parents right after His own worship.
If you dishonor the ones who gave you life, you’ll destroy every relationship after that too – starting with your soul.
3. Killing a Person
You didn’t give life – so you don’t have the right to take it.
Even one soul is sacred in Allah’s eyes. Murder spreads fear, pain, revenge, and chaos in society.
4. False Speech – Lying
One lie destroys trust. It breaks families, ruins reputations, and leads to greater sins like backbiting, false accusations, and injustice.
That’s why the Prophet ﷺ said: False speech is one of the greatest sins.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 4:48
“Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And whoever associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.”
→ Shirk is unforgivable if not repented before death.
📖Quran 17:23
“Your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment…”
→ Right after worship, Allah places obedience to parents – showing its extreme importance.
📖Quran 5:32
“…whoever kills a soul… it is as if he had slain mankind entirely…”
→ Every life matters in Islam. Taking one unjustly = killing all humanity.
📖Quran 22:30
“…And shun false speech.”
→ Lies corrupt society, destroy relationships, and lead to injustice.
