Importance of Love and Peace in Islam
📖Sahih Muslim 54 a
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith), and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Shall I not guide you to something which, if you do it, will generate love among you? Spread the greeting of peace (As-salamu alaikum) among yourselves.”
Deep Insight:
This hadith highlights that faith is not complete without brotherhood, and brotherhood is not possible without love — and love begins with simple gestures like saying salaam. Islam promotes peace not only in society but within the hearts of believers. A warm “As-salamu Alaikum” creates a bridge of connection, reminding us we are one ummah.
What if someone forgets?
Forgetting to say salaam is not a sin, but it is a missed opportunity for reward and a mistake (خطأ), especially if it’s habitual. Forgetfulness is a human trait and part of being fallible.
✅ In Islam, unintentional mistakes or forgetfulness are not held against someone — unless the person neglects it knowingly after learning its value.
🔄 Examples of reasons one might forget:
- Being distracted or stressed.
- Not understanding the virtue of salaam.
- Cultural influence where salaam isn’t commonly exchanged.
- Shyness or social anxiety.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 2:286
“Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or made a mistake…”
This verse shows Allah’s mercy and acknowledgment of human imperfection.
📖Quran 24:61
“…when you enter houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah, blessed and good…”
This emphasizes that salaam is not just a cultural phrase — it is a divinely commanded practice that spreads blessings.
📖Quran 49:10
“The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.”
The foundation of Islamic society is mutual love and peace.
