Make Things Easy and Gentle

📖Sahih al-Bukhari 69, Sahih Muslim 1734
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Make things easy and do not make things difficult. Make people calm and do not frighten them away.”

This hadith teaches that believers should approach life and interactions with ease, gentleness, and kindness. Making things easy means:

  1. Helping anyone in need, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, without unnecessary complications.
  2. Speaking politely and avoiding harshness or anger.
  3. Making jokes or fun that are harmless and do not involve sin.
  4. Avoiding showing anger, arguing, or fighting over trivial matters.
  5. Encouraging calmness in others, so they feel safe and comfortable around you.
  6. Being forgiving and understanding when others make mistakes.
  7. Offering guidance gently rather than imposing it harshly.

Practical examples today:

  • Helping a neighbor carry groceries or giving directions kindly.
  • Explaining rules at work or school patiently without pressure.
  • Smiling and greeting people warmly to make them feel welcome.
  • Resolving conflicts with calm conversation rather than shouting.

Quranic Context:

Avoid harshness, anger, or intimidation; instead, be a source of comfort, laughter, and helpfulness to all people.
