Importance of Kindness to Neighbors

📖Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1944
Abdullah bin Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “The companion who is the best to Allah is the one who is best to his companion. And the neighbor that is the best to Allah is the one that is best to his neighbor.”

This beautiful hadith teaches that Allah values our treatment of others — especially our companions and neighbors. It applies to both Muslims and non-Muslims. Good character is not limited to one’s own community but must be extended to everyone, regardless of religion, race, or background. Islam promotes justice, kindness, and respect for all human beings.

What this hadith teaches us:

  • Be kind and supportive to your friends, coworkers, classmates, and even strangers.
  • Treat neighbors with patience, help them in need, and never harm them, even if they are non-Muslim.
  • Speak kindly, avoid gossip or harm, and be generous with those close to you.
  • Allah looks at how we deal with people, especially those we interact with often.

Quranic Context:

📖Quran 4:36
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.

This verse highlights that goodness should be shown to everyone around us, from parents to strangers. Islam commands kindness across all human relationships.
