Importance of Tender Feelings
📖Sahih Muslim 2592 c
Jarir b. ‘Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: “He who is deprived of tenderly (loving) feelings is in fact deprived of good.”
Meaning:
This Hadith shows that mercy, kindness, and emotional softness are not just optional — they are essential qualities in Islam. A person who lacks gentleness is cut off from much goodness in life. Harshness hardens the heart, damages relationships, and takes one away from Allah’s mercy, Even when correcting others, a believer should use soft and loving words. The Prophet ﷺ himself was the most merciful and gentle — even with those who opposed him.
How to develop tender feelings (Rahmah):
- Start with your own family – Be gentle with parents, spouse, children, and siblings.
- Control your anger – Don’t react with harsh words or violence when provoked.
- Think before you speak – Kind words can solve many problems; harsh ones create new ones.
- Reflect on Allah’s Mercy – The more you understand how merciful Allah is, the more mercy you’ll show to others.
- Help others sincerely – Even a small act of kindness builds compassion.
- Make dua – Ask Allah to soften your heart and make you among the merciful.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 9:71
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong…
They support each other in doing good — not with harshness, but with care and mercy.
📖Quran 3:159
And by the mercy of Allah you were gentle with them. And if you had been rude or harsh-hearted, they would have disbanded from around you…
Even the Prophet ﷺ was reminded to deal with people with gentleness. It keeps hearts united and close to guidance.
📖Quran 21:107
And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.
The mission of the Prophet ﷺ was based on mercy — and so the mission of every true believer must carry the same spirit.
