Allah’s Shade on the Day of Resurrection

📖Sahih Muslim 2566
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying: “Verily, Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Where are those who had mutual love for My Glory’s sake? Today I shall shelter them in My shadow, when there is no other shadow but the shadow of Mine.'”

Explanation:

This hadith speaks about a special category of believers, those who loved each other purely for the sake of Allah, not for money, status, or benefit. Their relationship was built on faith, sincerity, and shared commitment to truth, On the Day of Judgment — when there is no physical shade, no place to hide, Allah will grant His “shadow” to these people. But this “shadow” isn’t something literal like a tree or a cloud.

What is the “Shadow of Allah”?

The shadow here = protection through Allah’s message. Those who followed His truth (the Qur’an and the Sunnah) and built their brotherhood/sisterhood based on it — they will receive His divine shelter.

So this “shadow” is symbolic of:

  • His mercy
  • His guidance
  • His reward for those who lived by His message

They followed the Qur’an, stayed away from ego, status, or worldly gain and their love was for Allah’s glory alone. That sincerity earns them the highest honor: His divine protection on the hardest day ever.

Qur’anic Context:

📖Quran 58:22
You will not find people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger—even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred…
This shows true love is tied to Allah’s cause.

📖Quran 3:103
And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you—when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together, and you became, by His favor, brothers.
This proves brotherhood through faith is Allah’s blessing.

📖Quran 76:11
So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and joy.
This protection is like the “shadow” mentioned in the hadith.

📖Quran 39:61
And Allah will save those who feared Him by placing them in their place of success; no evil will touch them, nor will they grieve.
