The Impact of Unfair Judgement
📖Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1330
[‘Abdullah] Ibn Abi Al-Awfa narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“[Indeed] Allah is with the judge as long as he is not unjust. So when he is unjust, He leaves him and he is attended by Shaitan.”
Explanation:
This hadith highlights that Allah is “with” the judge, meaning Allah’s truth, guidance, and message (the Qur’an and Sunnah) are with him only as long as he remains just and judges according to what Allah has revealed.
As soon as the judge begins to rule by anything other than Allah’s message, by personal opinion, culture, bribes, man-made laws, or public pressure, he becomes unjust. At that moment:
-
Allah’s message is no longer with him because he abandoned it.
-
Shaitan takes over — not the literal devil, but influences that pull him away from Allah’s truth.
-
Judging in Islam = applying Allah’s revelation (Qur’an and Sunnah). It’s not personal opinion or custom.
-
As long as the judge applies Allah’s commands, he’s “with Allah” meaning on His message.
-
If he starts judging by other ways like secular law, tribal bias, emotional pressure, or corruption, he abandons Allah’s message.
-
When that happens, Shaitan “attends” him, meaning:
-
He starts adopting false principles.
-
He listens to human influence over divine truth.
-
He follows ego, politics, or public opinion.
-
When a judge knowingly leaves Allah’s command and rules by culture, emotion, or secular law, he’s choosing to go against the truth. That’s when he is called “attended by Shaitan.” Why? Because: He was whispered to by the real devil, Then he acted upon that whisper, And now he follows another path besides the Qur’an, This label of “Shaitan” applies only when someone knows the truth and still goes against it, If someone is unaware, their mistake is not treated the same, because they didn’t realize they were being misled Quran 4:17
Qur’anic Context:
📖Quran 5:44
And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is they who are the disbelievers.
📖Quran 4:60
Have you not seen those who claim to believe… yet they want to refer their judgment to Tāghūt (false authorities), though they were commanded to reject them? And Satan wants to mislead them far astray.
📖Quran 25:30
And the Messenger will say, “O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as [a thing] abandoned.”
