The Promise of Paradise Without Reckoning

📖Sahih al-Bukhari 3247
Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Verily! 70,000 or 700,000 of my followers will enter Paradise altogether; so that the first and the last amongst them will enter at the same time, and their faces will be glittering like the bright full moon.”

Explanation of the Hadith:

1. “70,000 or 700,000 will enter Paradise together”:

This refers to a special, elite group from the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. These are the ones who:

  • Have absolute (trust) in Allah.

  • Avoid superstition or unnecessary worldly dependence.

  • Rely solely on Allah without demanding miracles or signs.

  • Are described in other narrations as those who do not ask others for ruqyah, branding, or omens.

The large number (70,000 or 700,000) is not meant to exclude others from Paradise, but to honor a group that will enter without any reckoning. Others will still enter Jannah some after judgment, some after purification, but this group goes in directly.

2. “Their faces will be glittering like the full moon”:

  • This is a simile, used to show the brightness, beauty, and honor of their faces on the Day of Judgment.

  • Just as the full moon lights up the sky, these believers will shine with purity and joy from their faces.

  • This is due to their faith, sincerity, and the pleasure of Allah reflecting upon them.

It doesn’t mean they will physically change shape, but their spiritual rank will be visibly elevated, and their appearance will radiate light as a sign of their success.
