Allah’s Precious Reward is Paradise
📖Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2450
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Verily, the merchandise of Allah is valuable, surely the merchandise of Allah is Paradise.”
Meaning:
The Prophet ﷺ compared Paradise to merchandise – something people strive for, bargain for, and invest in. In worldly life, we work hard, spend money, and give effort to obtain valuable goods. Likewise, Allah’s merchandise is not cheap or easy – it is the most precious reward: Paradise. It requires effort, sacrifice, and sincerity in worship and good deeds.
What we learn today:
- Just as people dedicate themselves to careers, business, or education to achieve success, believers must dedicate themselves to deeds that secure the hereafter.
- Paradise is not gained by wishful thinking but by consistent effort, patience, charity, and repentance.
- Doing good to others – like helping the poor, feeding the hungry, or supporting those in need – is also part of this “transaction” with Allah, as these deeds buy for us Allah’s mercy.
- True success is not in worldly merchandise, which perishes, but in Allah’s merchandise, which is eternal.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 9:111
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. It is a true promise binding upon Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an. And who is truer to His covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great success.
Footnote:
This does not mean killing people without reason. Islam forbids aggression. Fighting is only allowed in defense – when believers are attacked, oppressed, or driven from their homes. Killing without right is a major sin.
- Quran 2:190
Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors. - Quran 22:39
Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory. - Quran 17:33
And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right. - Sahih Muslim 1744b
It is narrated by Ibn ‘Umar that a woman was found killed in one of these battles; so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the killing of women and children.Islam does not allow the killing of women and children during war. Likewise, the Prophet ﷺ also forbade the killing of animals, the destruction of trees, and the ruin of crops without necessity. War in Islam is only for protection, not destruction. However, if something happens by mistake during battle, it is not counted as intentional sin, because it was never permitted to target innocents deliberately.
📖Quran 61:10-11
O you who believe! Shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment? [It is that] you believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives. That is better for you, if only you knew.
📖Quran 2:267
O you who believe! Spend from the good things which you have earned, and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not choose the defective therefrom to spend, while you yourselves would not take it except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
📖Quran 76:8-9
And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [saying], “We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We wish not from you reward or thanks.”
📖Quran 3:185
Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your full compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So whoever is kept away from the Fire and admitted into Paradise has truly succeeded. And the life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion.
