Leave Irrelevant Matters
📖Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2318
Ali bin Al-Husain narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Surely, of the excellence of a person’s Islam is that he leaves what does not concern him.”
This hadith teaches a powerful principle: true strength in Islam is shown by avoiding what is unnecessary, unproductive, or irrelevant. A strong believer focuses on what brings them closer to Allah, benefits their life, or helps others.
Why is this important?
-
Time is limited: Wasting it on idle talk, gossip, or trivial matters distracts from worship, learning, and good deeds.
-
Mental clarity: Avoiding irrelevant concerns helps protect peace of mind, focus, and emotional balance.
-
Prevents sin: Most useless speech and actions lead to backbiting, suspicion, or arrogance—things clearly condemned in Islam.
-
Builds character: This habit nurtures discipline, maturity, and sincerity.
-
Leads to barakah (blessing): Focusing only on what matters opens the door to Allah’s help, wisdom, and productivity.
This hadith doesn’t just recommend silence—it pushes for intentional living, where every word and action has value.
📖Quran 23:1-3
Indeed, successful are the believers. Those who humble themselves in prayer, and those who turn away from idle talk.
These verses support the same message: that true believers are those who avoid useless speech and distractions, and instead focus on what truly benefits their soul. Islam isn’t just about what you do—it’s also about what you choose not to do.
