📖Sahih al-Bukhari 6561, Sahih Muslim 213
Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, the most lightly punished of the people of Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection is a man under whose feet are placed two hot coals by which his brain boils.”
This Hadith illustrates that even the “lightest” punishment in Hell is severe, showing the seriousness of disobedience and sin. However, it does not mean the Prophet decreed this punishment himself. He was conveying what Allah inspired him with, based on Allah’s perfect knowledge of the finality of the person’s deeds and choices.
- The punishment described is a reflection of what Allah allowed the individual to choose by their own free will.
- It demonstrates that both Muslims and non-Muslims can be held accountable for their actions if they persist in wrongdoing knowingly.
- The Hadith emphasizes personal responsibility: ultimate punishment is for the choices made by the individual themselves, under Allah’s knowledge and justice.
- Warning: This is only one person’s punishment. Many others may fall into the same or worse punishments if they do not learn from it, recognize the consequences, and repent. Ignorance without repentance does not protect anyone.

📖Quran 78:21-22
Indeed, Hell is lying in wait, a place of ambush for the transgressors, a place for those who turn away from Allah, the sinners.
