Covering Vessels to Prevent Contagion

Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Cover the vessels and close the water skins, for there will be night out of the year in which an epidemic descends. It will not pass over an uncovered vessel or an untied water skin but that some of this contagion will fall into it.

5. Follow health precautions during outbreaks, like avoiding unnecessary contact and maintaining cleanliness.

Quranic Context

📖Quran 2:195
And do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction.

This verse gives a broad principle about avoiding actions that lead to harm or destruction.
While it doesn’t specifically mention epidemics, it applies to many situations where neglect or carelessness can bring harm, including:

1. Exposing food or water to contamination.
2. Ignoring safety measures in health and hygiene.
3. Engaging in reckless behavior that endangers life.
4. Neglecting responsibilities toward oneself and others.
