No unruly behavior when performing the pilgrimage
📖Sunan al-Tirmidhī 903
Qudamah ibn Abdullah reported: “I saw the Prophet ﷺ upon a she-camel stoning the pillar at Hajj. There was no hitting, nor crowding, nor shouts to make way.”
Description:
This hadith shows the Prophet ﷺ performing the stoning ritual during Hajj with calmness, patience, and dignity. He avoided force, injury, or disorder – setting the perfect example of worship without harming others.
Meaning:
The stoning at Hajj is a symbolic act of rejecting evil, yet the Prophet ﷺ showed that even in such a powerful act of worship, aggression or harming others is unacceptable. The focus is on the purpose, not on causing chaos.
Lesson for Today:
We learn that true religious acts must be done with order, humility, and compassion – especially in crowded situations. Whether in Hajj, public gatherings, or any community event, pushing, shouting, or harming others goes against the Sunnah.
📖Surah Al-Baqarah 2:43
“And establish prayer and give zakah, and bow with those who bow [in worship].”
- Worship is done in unity and humility, not selfishness or harm.
📖Surah Al-Baqarah 2:60
“And do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.”
- Even in worship, harming others or causing chaos is corruption.
📖Surah Aal-E-Imran 3:159
“Indeed, Allah loves those who rely upon Him.”
- The Prophet ﷺ relied on Allah, not force or privilege, to fulfill the ritual.
📖Surah Al-Baqarah 2:203
“And remember Allah during [specific] numbered days. Then whoever hastens [his departure] in two days – there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays – there is no sin upon him – for him who fears Allah. And fear Allah and know that unto Him you will be gathered.”
Meaning in Hajj context:
- The “two days” refer to the 11th and 12th of Dhul-Hijjah – the Days of Tashreeq in Mina, after Eid al-Adha.
- During these days, pilgrims stone the Jamarāt.
- A pilgrim may leave Mina after two days (11th & 12th) if they wish – no sin.
- Or they may stay a third day (13th of Dhul-Hijjah) – also no sin.
Why?
Because both durations are allowed in Shariah – the Prophet ﷺ did both at different times, showing flexibility. The key condition is “for him who fears Allah” – meaning, the choice must be made while keeping Hajj rules and remembering Allah, not rushing out just to escape worship.
