Allah forgets him as he has forgotten Him
📖Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2428
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A servant will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and Allah will say to him: Did I not make your hearing, your seeing, your wealth, and your children? Did I not subordinate the cattle and the harvest for you? Did I not leave you in charge of people and you were taken as their leader? Did you not expect to meet Me on this Day of yours? He will say no. Allah will say to him: Today, I have forgotten you as you had forgotten Me.”
Description
This hadith paints a striking image of accountability on the Day of Judgment. Allah reminds the person of every blessing He granted – sight, hearing, wealth, children, resources, and even leadership over others. Yet, despite all of this, the person lived without preparing for the meeting with Allah. The divine response is severe: just as he ignored Allah in the world, Allah will abandon him in the Hereafter. This “forgetting” is not a lapse in memory by Allah but a form of divine justice — leaving the person without mercy, guidance, or help.
How & What We Learn Today
We learn that blessings are a trust from Allah, not a guarantee of His pleasure. Having resources, skills, and positions of influence means greater accountability, not less. If a person lives only for the temporary world, ignoring their Creator and the Hereafter, they face the danger of being abandoned when they need Allah the most.
Why Allah Will Not Forgive in This Case
In this scenario, the person did not merely sin out of weakness – he lived as if Allah did not matter at all. He enjoyed every blessing yet gave no gratitude, no worship, and no preparation for the afterlife. He forgot his God who created him, choosing to remain attached to a temporary world while neglecting eternal reality. Forgiveness is for those who repent; this person never cared to return to Allah. Thus, divine justice demands that he be treated as he treated his Lord – forgotten and left without aid.
