Severing Kinship Prohibition in Islam
📖Sahih al-Bukhari 5984
Narrated Jubair bin Mut`im:
“That he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, ‘The person who severs the bond of kinship will not enter Paradise.'”
Explanation & Lessons from the Hadith
1️⃣ Severing Family Ties is a Major Sin
🔹 This hadith warns that cutting ties with family members is a severe sin that prevents entry into Paradise.
🔹 Islam emphasizes family unity, love, and responsibility. Breaking ties without valid reasons leads to Allah’s displeasure.
2️⃣ Good Deeds Are a Path to Allah’s Mercy
📖Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:72
“This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do.”
🔹 Paradise is not granted just by belief—it requires actions and obedience to Allah’s commands.
🔹 Good deeds, like maintaining family ties, are part of Allah’s mercy.
📖Surah Al-A’raf 7:42
“But those who believe and do righteous deeds – We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity – they are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally.”
🔹 Faith alone is not enough—it must be followed by righteous actions.
🔹 Islam is not just about believing in Allah—it’s about obeying Him.
3️⃣ Allah’s Mercy Lies in His Commands
📖Surah Al-A’raf 7:156
“But My mercy encompasses all things. So I will decree it for those who fear Me, give charity, and those who believe in Our verses.”
🔹 Allah’s mercy is granted to those who follow His commands—not just those who claim belief.
4️⃣ Qur’anic Command to Maintain Family Bonds
📖Surah Muhammad 47:22-23
“So would you perhaps, if you turn away, cause corruption on earth and sever your ties of kinship? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.”
🔹 Breaking family ties is linked to corruption and earns Allah’s curse.
📖Surah An-Nisa 4:36
“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and be kind to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the distant neighbor, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are arrogant and boastful.”
🔹 Islam commands kindness to family as part of faith.
