False Accusations Punishment for Slander
📖Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6858, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1660
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever accuses someone in his custodianship of a crime and he is innocent of the claim, the accuser will be flogged on the Day of Resurrection, unless it truly is as he claimed.”
Description:
This Hadith strongly warns against false accusations and slander, especially in matters of trust, responsibility, or leadership. Accusing someone of wrongdoing without proof violates the rights of others, spreads injustice, and harms both the victim and the accuser spiritually. On the Day of Judgment, such false claims will be punished unless the accusation was truthful. This emphasizes the seriousness of speaking falsely about others and the sanctity of trust.
How it applies today:
- Avoid spreading rumors or unverified information about colleagues, leaders, or anyone in a position of responsibility.
- Verify facts before accusing anyone of wrongdoing.
- Understand that false claims have both worldly and spiritual consequences.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 49:6
O you who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with information, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance and afterwards become regretful for what you have done.
This verse underlines the importance of verifying claims before acting on them, protecting both society and the individual.
📖Quran 4:58
Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.
This verse reinforces that punishment or judgment should only occur after proper verification and through legal, just means.
