The Most Honorable Person and Piety in Islam

📖Sahih al-Bukhari 3374
Narrated Abu Huraira: Some people asked the Prophet (ﷺ): “Who is the most honorable amongst the people?” He replied, “The most honorable among them is the one who is the most Allah-fearing.” They said, “O Allah’s Prophet! We do not ask about this.” He said, “Then the most honorable person is Joseph, Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Prophet, the son of Allah’s Khalil.” They said, “We do not ask about this.” He said, “Then you want to ask me about the Arabs’ descent?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “Those who were best in the pre-Islamic period are the best in Islam, if they comprehend (religious knowledge).”

Qur’an verses

📖Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13
“Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”
🔹 This verse confirms that true honor comes from piety (Taqwa), not lineage or worldly status.

📖Surah Yusuf 12:6
“And thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams and complete His favor upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He completed it upon your fathers, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is Knowing and Wise.”
🔹 Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) was honored not just because of his lineage but because of his righteousness and knowledge granted by Allah.

📖Surah Al-Baqarah 2:124
“And [mention] when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them. [Allah] said, ‘Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people.’ [Abraham] said, ‘And of my descendants?’ [Allah] said, ‘My covenant does not include the wrongdoers.’”
🔹 Even in noble lineage, only the righteous are honored by Allah—not merely because of their ancestry.

📖Surah Al-Isra 17:84
“Say, ‘Each works according to his manner, but your Lord is most knowing of who is best guided in way.’”
🔹 Honor is based on deeds and guidance, not social status.

Lessons from the Hadith & Qur’an:

Piety is the true measure of honor, not lineage, race, or social class.
Even the most noble families can have misguided people, and true nobility comes from righteousness.
Religious knowledge elevates a person—those best in character before Islam can become the best in Islam if they understand the religion properly.

This hadith and the supporting Qur’anic verses remind us that our focus should be on righteousness and knowledge of Islam, rather than worldly status and ancestry.
