Striving in Allah’s Path and Worship in Seclusion

📖Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2634, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1888
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, which people are best?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A believer who strives in the way of Allah with his life and property.” They said, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “A believer in a narrow valley who fears his Lord and spares people from his evil.”

In another narration, the Prophet said, “A man who withdraws into a narrow valley to worship his Lord.”

This Hadith describes the qualities of the best believers. The first type is active: someone who dedicates their life and wealth to striving in the way of Allah, contributing to the welfare of the community and defending the truth. The second type is more reserved: a believer who avoids harming others and lives a righteous life even in isolation.

“Spares people from his evil” means consciously refraining from harming, oppressing, or causing trouble to others – through speech, action, or intention. It reflects self-control, moral responsibility, and the fear of Allah in daily life.

What We Learn Today:

  • Strive in the way of Allah through good deeds, charity, and protecting others.
  • Avoid harming anyone – physically, verbally, or emotionally.
  • Worship and righteousness are valid both in public service and in personal devotion.
  • Excellence in faith is not only in action but also in restraint, mindfulness, and fear of Allah.

Key Points:

  • Active service to Allah: using life and property in His path
  • Self-restraint: avoiding evil, even when no one is watching
  • Devotion in isolation: maintaining faith and worship sincerely

Quranic Context Supporting “Sparing People from Evil”:

📖Quran 4:36

📖Quran 49:13
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.

📖Quran 5:2
Cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.

📖Quran 41:34
Good and evil are not equal. Repel evil with that which is better, and your enemy will become as close as a devoted friend.

📖Quran 49:11
O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames.
