Allah Protects Beloved Servants from Worldly Temptations
đSunan al-TirmidhÄ« 2036
Qatadah ibn al-Nuâman reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, âWhen Allah loves a servant, He protects them from the worldly life, just as one of you protects the sick from drinking too much water.
- This hadith illustrates how Allahâs love acts as guidance and protection.
- âProtection from the worldly lifeâ does not mean avoiding life itself, wealth, or work. Instead, it means:
-
-
Being safeguarded from immorality, sins, and wrong desires that can mislead the heart.
-
Receiving inner guidance, so the servant naturally avoids actions that harm their faith or moral integrity.
-
Developing an inclination toward righteous deeds, even when worldly temptations appear attractive.
-
- It is as if Allah places a restraint on their heart, much like a caregiver prevents a sick person from drinking too much water, which could harm them.
- Ultimately, this divine guidance leads the believer to salvation, not merely in worldly life, but in the Hereafter.
- Such people experience the world without being consumed by it, maintaining a balance between lawful enjoyment and moral responsibility.
Quranic Context:
đQuran 39:23
Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book, repeating the former scriptures, and as a protection and guidance for the believers. Allah guides by it whom He wills. And whoever Allah leaves astray – there is no guide for them.
- When Allah guides someone, He protects them from error and misguidance.
- Guidance means the personâs heart naturally follows Allahâs message and teachings, avoiding sinful paths.
- The verse emphasizes that being led to the message is part of Allahâs care and protection for those He loves.
đQuran 2:2
This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah.
đQuran 5:100
Say: âThe evil and the good are not equal, though the abundance of the evil may impress you.â So fear Allah, O people of understanding, that you may succeed.
đQuran 6:153
And, âFollow the straight path of Allah, and do not follow other ways, for they will separate you from His way.
