Toggle📖Sahih al-Bukhari 2448, Sahih Muslim 19
Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Beware the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no veil between it and Allah.”
Description
This hadith is a warning and a reminder: the dua of the oppressed is never blocked. When someone is wronged, their cry goes straight to Allah. It does not matter if the oppressed is weak, unknown, or even non-Muslim – Allah hears them. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that oppression carries a heavy consequence because Allah is Just, and He defends those who cannot defend themselves.
What it means
- It applies to anyone, regardless of religion, as long as they are alive and not actively fighting you.
- A Muslim must never think Allah only hears Muslims. Allah responds to justice, and the dua of an oppressed soul can be accepted against the oppressor.
- This establishes universal accountability – oppression is hated by Allah in every form.
- But the effect of that dua – when and how it appears – is entirely up to Allah. It may be answered immediately, delayed until the right time, or saved for the Hereafter. It is not bound to your desires, schedule, or expectations.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 42:42
The blame is only against those who wrong people and transgress in the land without right. For them there will be a painful punishment.
📖Quran 14:42
And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare in horror.
📖Quran 4:135
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives.
📖Quran 2:279
And if you repent, then you may have your principal – neither wronging nor being wronged.
📖Quran 28:83
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exalted status upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
These verses show that Allah hears and responds, but His justice unfolds on His timing – sometimes in this life, sometimes reserved for the Day of Judgment.
