Benefits of Making Dua for Fellow Believers

📖Sahih Muslim 2732a
Abu Dharr (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:
“There is no believing servant who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence) except that the Angels say: The same be for you too.”

Key Lessons from This Hadith:

  1. Praying for Others Brings Reward to Yourself

    • When you sincerely pray for someone else without them knowing, the angels respond by asking Allah to grant you the same blessing.
    • This encourages selflessness and strengthens bonds among believers.
  2. Angels Act as Witnesses and Intercessors

    • Angels play a significant role in conveying prayers and blessings. When you pray for someone’s well-being, forgiveness, or success, the angels ensure that you receive similar rewards.
  3. Sincerity in Du’a (Supplication)

    • True sincerity in supplication means praying for others without seeking personal gain or recognition.
    • This hadith teaches that selfless prayers are honored by Allah through the angels’ response.
  4. Building Love and Unity in the Ummah

    • Making du’a for others fosters love, unity, and a sense of brotherhood in the Muslim community.
    • It reminds believers that the success and well-being of others contribute to the overall strength of the Ummah.

Angels in Islam do not have free will like humans and jinn, but they still act according to Allah’s command. Their response to du’as (“The same be for you too”) is not based on personal choice but rather on Allah’s decree.

Why Do Angels Speak If They Have No Free Will?

  1. They Obey Allah’s Command Instantly

    • Angels do not act based on personal will; they only do what Allah has commanded them.
    • 📖Surah Anbiya (21:27)
“They do not speak until He has spoken, and they act by His command.”
    • The fact that they say “The same be for you too” means that Allah has commanded them to make this response whenever a believer prays for someone else.
  2. They Function as Divine Messengers and Executors

    • Angels are created to carry out specific tasks in Allah’s divine system. Some angels record deeds, others manage the rain, and some, like Jibreel (Gabriel), deliver revelation.
    • In this case, the angels are assigned to respond to supplications in a way that benefits the one making du’a.
  3. Their Speech Is a Divine System, Not Personal Choice

    • Angels do not have personal desires, but they are programmed by Allah to act in a certain way.
    • Their statement “The same be for you too” is not an independent thought but an automatic divine response, just as they praise and glorify Allah continuously.
  4. A Means of Blessing for Believers

    • Allah, in His wisdom, has created a system where believers are rewarded for praying for others.
    • Instead of Allah directly responding every time, He has appointed angels to announce and confirm the reward, reinforcing the habit of selfless prayer.

Conclusion:

Angels do not have free will, but their response is a divine command, not a personal choice. Allah has ordered them to say this so that it becomes a means of mercy and motivation for believers.
