Allah is with the one who remembers Him

 📖Sunan Ibn Mājah 3792
Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, Allah Almighty says: I am with My servant while he remembers Me and his two lips are moving for My sake.

Best Description

This hadith shows the closeness of Allah to His servants when they remember Him. “I am with My servant” does not mean Allah will always give us what we want of worldly desires. Rather, it means Allah is with us in guidance, mercy, protection, and light, To remember Allah (dhikr) is not limited to formal prayer (ṣalāh). It includes any act of the heart or tongue where you acknowledge Him – saying SubḥānAllāh, Alḥamdulillāh, Lā ilāha illā Allāh, Allāhu Akbar, or even silently remembering Him in your heart.

Examples of Dhikr Beyond Prayer

  • Saying Bismillāh before eating.
  • Praising Allah after sneezing: Alḥamdulillāh.
  • Saying Astaghfirullāh after committing a mistake.
  • Silently remembering Allah while walking, driving, or even during work.
  • Reflecting on Allah’s creation (the sky, mountains, oceans) and saying SubḥānAllāh.

This shows remembrance is a way of life, not just limited to the prayer mat.

Quranic Context

📖Quran 2:152
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.

📖Quran 13:28
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest.

📖Quran 29:45
Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows what you do.

📖Quran 8:2
The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith, and upon their Lord they rely.

What We Learn

  • Remembering Allah brings His support, guidance, and protection — not just worldly gifts.
  • Dhikr is broader than prayer; it is a continuous state of heart and tongue.
  • Allah’s promise of “I am with My servant” is the highest honor, reminding us that we are never alone if we remain mindful of Him.
  • In today’s busy world, even simple acts like saying Alḥamdulillāh or silently thinking of Allah while scrolling, walking, or resting are moments that bring Allah’s closeness.

Allah Does Not Fulfill Every Desire Without Conditions

📖Quran 53:24
Or shall man have whatever he desires?

📖Quran 17:18
Whoever desires this worldly life, We hasten for him therein what We will to whom We intend. Then We have made for him Hell, which he will [enter to] burn, condemned and banished.

This means if someone chooses only dunya, Allah allows them – by His will – to get what they chase. But it’s not a blessing, it’s a test and a trap. They may get:

  • Money through scams and cheating
  • Adultery and lust without limits
  • Alcohol and drugs to escape reality
  • Power and fame that corrupts their soul
  • Killing or oppressing others to stay above
  • Enjoyment of entertainment and luxury as if life has no accountability

All of this looks like success, but it is only what Allah willed for them in dunya. In the end, the same path drags them to Hellfire.

📖Quran 17:19
But whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts the effort due to it while he is a believer — it is those whose effort is ever appreciated.

📖Quran 42:27
And if Allah were to extend provision for His servants excessively, they would surely rebel throughout the earth; but He sends it down in due measure as He wills. Indeed, He is Acquainted and Seeing of His servants.

This is reminder for believers. If Allah were to give every believer everything they ask for, it would not always keep them on the straight path. Too much wealth, power, or luxury could lead them to:

  • Competing with each other in greed and arrogance
  • Forgetting prayer and remembrance because of comfort
  • Indulging in pride, showing off wealth, and humiliating the poor
  • Falling into forbidden pleasures like adultery, gambling, or intoxicants
  • Becoming unjust rulers, oppressing others to keep their status
  • Trusting their own means instead of relying on Allah

So Allah gives in “due measure” – exactly what a believer needs for guidance and growth, not what would destroy their faith. His wisdom is perfect, even when we desire more.
