Prophet endures the trials of death with patience
📖Sunan al-Tirmidhī 978
Aisha reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as he was dying and he had a cup of water, which he would dip his hand into and wipe his face with water, then he was saying, “O Allah, help me with the agonies of death!”
This shows that even the Prophet ﷺ went through the pain of death. It is a reminder that no one, not even prophets, escape life’s final trial. Pain in death is not humiliation, rather it is part of the human journey and a test from Allah, Prophets suffered to set an example for the believers. Jesus was rejected by his people, the Jews tried to kill him, and his disciples were persecuted and even crucified by people. Many prophets and their followers faced severe trials. This proves that hardship is not a sign of Allah’s abandonment, but a reminder for believers to stay patient – if even the best of creation endured trials, we should not expect an easy life.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 3:144
Muhammad is no more than a messenger. Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? Whoever turns back on his heels will never harm Allah in the least, but Allah will reward those who are grateful.
This verse makes it clear that faith is in Allah, not tied to the life or death of any prophet.
