📖Sahih al-Bukhari 614
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, ‘Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-dda` watit-tammah, was-salatil qa’imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah, wa b`ath-hu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa`adtahu’ [O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of)], then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection”.

  • This hadith states that if a person recites this supplication after hearing the Adhan, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) will intercede on their behalf on the Day of Resurrection. This means that the Prophet will plead to Allah on behalf of that person and ask for their forgiveness and admission to Paradise. This hadith also emphasizes the importance of the Adhan and the regular prayer, both of which are central to the practice of Islam. By reciting this supplication, a believer affirms their faith in Allah, acknowledges the status of Prophet Muhammad as the final messenger, and seeks his intercession.

Overall, this hadith encourages Muslims to recite this supplication after hearing the Adhan, as it serves as a means of seeking the Prophet’s intercession and forgiveness from Allah. It also highlights the importance of the Adhan and regular prayer in the practice of Islam.

The phrase “the best and highest place in Paradise that You promised him” refers to the “Maqam Mahmud” (The Praised Station), which is mentioned in the Qur’an:

📖 Surah Al-Isra (17:79)
“And in some parts of the night, offer the Tahajjud prayer as an additional act of worship for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praised station (Maqam Mahmud).”

This verse confirms that Allah has promised the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) a special rank on the Day of Judgment, which is the Maqam Mahmud, a unique station of intercession where he will plead on behalf of his followers. The hadith aligns with this Qur’anic promise, reinforcing the significance of seeking the Prophet’s intercession by reciting the supplication after the Adhan.
