The Prophet loved cold, sweet drinks

📖Sunan al-Tirmidhī 1895
Aisha (RA) reported: The most beloved drink to the Prophet ï·º was sweetened and cold.

Explanation

In the time of the Prophet ï·º, cold meant cooled naturally – such as water from a shaded well, stored in earthenware pots, or cooled with natural means (e.g., adding cool water from a stream). There were no refrigerators or ice cubes, but the concept of cool, refreshing drink was the same.

In today’s sense, cold means chilled with ice, stored in the fridge, or otherwise cooled artificially – and this is still completely permissible as long as:

  1. The drink is halal.
  2. It’s not harmful to health.
  3. It’s taken in moderation.

What We Learn Today

  • Cold drinks are allowed in Islam.
  • Enjoyment of lawful blessings is part of Sunnah.
  • Moderation is key – excessive cold drinks (especially fizzy or unhealthy ones) can harm health.
Quranic Context

📖Surah Al-A‘raf 7:32
“Say, Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision? Say, They are for those who believe during worldly life, but exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection.”

7:32 says that Allah’s lawful provisions and adornments are for believers.

  • It does not limit blessings to the 7th-century technology or culture.
  • Anything that fits the same lawful category – whether old or new – is included.
