The First Intercessor on Judgment Day
📖Sahih Muslim 2278 | Bukhari 4712
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ï·º) as saying: “I shall be pre-eminent amongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first intercessor and the first whose intercession will be accepted (by Allah).”
This Hadith confirms the unmatched rank and responsibility of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the Day of Judgment. Among all of creation, he will be the first to intercede for mankind, and his intercession will be the first to be accepted by Allah. His status is not merely honorary — it carries the divine responsibility of initiating the events of the Last Day through his request for mercy on behalf of humanity. This intercession marks the beginning of divine justice and mercy unfolding on that Day. His role as the foremost intercessor is not based on his own merit alone but is granted and confirmed by Allah Himself in the Qur’an.
Quranic Context:
📖Quran 17:79
And rise at the last part of the night, offering additional prayers so your Lord may raise you to a station of praise and glory.
This verse (Al-Isra 17:79) refers to the Maqam Mahmood (Station of Praise) — a unique status promised to the Prophet ﷺ, where he will be honored with the right of intercession. Scholars unanimously agree that this praised station directly corresponds to the role mentioned in the Hadith above, where he will intercede for creation, and his plea will be the first one granted.
Allah affirms his elevated rank, not only among humans but in the Divine Plan for the Hereafter.
