The Prophet’s Advice to Young Men

📖Sahih Muslim 1400 c
Abdullah (b. Mas’ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to us: O young men, those among you who can support a wife should marry, for it restrains eyes (from casting evil glances) and preserves one from immorality; but he who cannot afford it should observe fast, for it is a means of controlling the sexual desire.

This hadith directly addresses the real struggles of youth – especially in a time when temptations are literally one scroll away. The Prophet ﷺ gives two clear solutions:

  1. Marriage for those financially and emotionally ready.
  2. Fasting for those who can’t yet commit.

Why? Because marriage channels desire into something halal and stable, while fasting suppresses the heat of desire and brings self-discipline.

How Lack of Control Leads to Immorality

When that urge isn’t managed, it often explodes into:

  • Secret chats and flirting
  • Addiction to explicit content
  • Hookups masked as “situationships”
  • DMs full of thirst and zero shame
  • Eyes wandering even during prayer

And let’s be real – some out here simping for pixels, selling dignity for dopamine.
No marriage, no fasting, just unlimited Wi-Fi and zero self-respect.

Medical Backing: How Fasting Controls Desire

Modern science backs this hadith. Fasting (especially intermittent fasting) has been shown to:

  • Reduce testosterone levels temporarily
  • Decrease libido and sexual impulses
  • Improve mental clarity and impulse control
  • Increase discipline through delayed gratification

Fasting shifts the focus from pleasure-seeking to purpose-driven behavior – a natural reset for the body and brain.

Quranic Context:

📖Quran 24:30
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.

Lowering the gaze is the first step in safeguarding the heart – and marriage or fasting supports that.

📖Quran 24:33
And let those who find not the means for marriage keep themselves chaste until Allah enriches them from His bounty…

This verse reinforces the command to remain pure until one is able to marry – and fasting is that bridge.

Control Yourself or Stay Logged Out

If you can’t control yourself, then seriously – go live under a rock, Because what’s the point of being alive if all you do is scroll porn, forward filth on WhatsApp, and flood your group chats with nudity like it’s some kind of achievement? You’re not “exploring freedom” – you’re drowning in filth with zero shame. Your phone’s gallery is a digital dump, your mind’s a wasteland, and your soul? Probably on airplane mode, Either get married, start fasting, or get some self-respect, Because if all you offer to the world is sin on Wi-Fi – you’re better off logged out permanently.
